Learn how to eat right, say people who have lost 40 to 100 pounds and so far keep them off.

The world is full of weightloss tips. Some are based on scientific data, others on doctors', trainers', or nutritionists' experience, but perhaps the most interesting tips you can get come from the very core of the issue: the weight losers themselves.

The School of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh and>Health Sciences Center, University of Colorado-Denver nterviewed more than 2,0000 who have lost more than 30 lb. and managed to keep it off for a year or more.

The tips we review today are based on data from the National Weight Control Registry. I classified them by several general categories:

  • Successful weight losers eat average 5 meals a day. It especially important for older women who burn significantly less calories to digest larger servings than if a serving doesn't exceed 500 calories. This can explain at least part of the mystery of weight-losing effect of frequent small meals.
  • Diary works. It works for exercise self-control, craving analysis, stress reduction, it does for calorie counting, too.
  • Learn how to eat right and plan to stick with it for the rest of your life. Result -- 40 lb. kept off for 3 years
  • No diet - no cheating! Result -- 80 lb. kept off for 13 years
  • Do not go to extremes. Say: " It's OK sometimes to..." Result -- Size 18 to 8.
  • Watch not only what you eat and when, but also how and where. Create your own rituals. Have your time to change your mind about eating while not being hungry. Result -- 100 lb.!
  • Drink a glass of water before concluding that you are hungry. Learn how to tell the difference between hunger and thirst. Result -- 80 lb.
