If You Have Dry Eye, Paprika Can Provide Relief

Dry eye occurs when tears do not provide enough lubrication for your eyes. You are more likely to acquire this condition as you age and it’s especially common in post-menopausal women. So if your eyes are dry, red, inflamed, and irritated, then you may have dry eye. Though, not to worry, there are natural remedies available to help alleviate the irritation.

Paprika is a popular spice that has been used for centuries. It is made up of dried chili peppers, with the seeds removed, and then turned into a powder form. This spice is loaded with micro-nutrients, antioxidants, and vitamins. Now here is where paprika plays a role in alleviating dry eye symptoms. It has an extremely high concentration of vitamin A, which plays an important role in the production of the lubricating layer of tear film in the eyes that is essential for the production of tears. And tears naturally lubricate the eyes.

Paprika is really easy to use in your everyday cooking because it is a common spice that can be added to just about any food. Getting your daily dose is as easy as sprinkling paprika on poultry, meats, rice, potatoes, and even eggs. Start by sprinkling paprika on your food just once per day and then monitor how your eyes are feeling after 2 to 3 weeks. And you don’t have to stop using paprika once your eyes feel better, you can continue using it daily for long-lasting eye health and as a natural antioxidant.
