How Eating Yogurt Can Benefit Your Health

Besides being a yummy, quick breakfast treat, yogurt is a nutritional powerhouse and a healthy way to start your day. Yogurt supporters believe it helps everything from the curing common cold symptoms to helping build stronger muscles. Mix it with some granola or seeds, throw in some fruit and you have a delicious and nutritious morning parfait.

Probiotics

Bacteria is usually thought of with a negative connotation, but your body actually needs “good” bacteria in the digestive tract. Probiotics are the living organisms in yogurt that deliver healthy bacteria into your body. The benefits of probiotics range from better digestion to positive immune function and can help various gastrointestinal problems.

Dairy

A recent study done in part by Alvaro Alonso of the Harvard School of Public Health found that subjects who consumed low-fat dairy had a lower risk of high blood pressure than those who did not. Yogurt is a great source of dairy and the other nutrients found in dairy foods; animal protein, and a range of vitamins. With both calcium and vitamin D, yogurt can also help prevent osteoporosis.
