5 Great Anti-Aging Vitamins

While you can’t stop the clock when it comes to aging, you can certainly fight it every step of the way. One of the best ways to retain your youth is through good nutrition. Unfortunately, many of us don’t always eat as healthy as we should. In that case, supplementation can help you get those much-needed nutrients to keep you young and fit. Here are five great anti-aging vitamins to help you age gracefully.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A in the form of A and Beta-Carotene can help slow down the aging process. First of all this vitamin acts as an antioxidant that helps counteract free radicals in your body. These free radicals are responsible for cellular damage, disease, and aging. Vitamin A also helps to keep your eyes young and healthy too.

The National Institutes of Health recommend 5000 IU of Vitamin A per day. This is a fat-soluble vitamin, meaning it’s stored in your liver and fatty tissues. Too much Vitamin A can be toxic. However, when taken in safe dosages it will help slow down the aging process.

Vitamin B

Vitamin B is actually called B complex since it contains eight different B vitamins: B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin) B5 (pantothenic acid), B6 (pyridoxine), B7 (biotin), B9 (folic acid) and B12 (cyanocobalamin). Although each one has a specific function, they work together as a team.

B vitamins are excellent for helping you deal with stress. And we all know how much stress can age you. Think for a moment about each U.S. President. Ever notice how they age considerably after only 4 years? It’s obviously more than just time that takes its toll—it’s also the stress. Adding a B complex supplement can help you avoid that stress-related aging.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is another great antioxidant vitamin that scavenges free radicals in the body. It’s a great immune booster and can help reduce cardiovascular disease. And we know how important a healthy heart is to staying young. Vitamin C also does wonders for your skin, helping to protect it from the damaging effects of the sun’s UV rays. So load up on your Vitamin C to help combat those fine lines and wrinkles. It’s also a water-soluble vitamin, so you don’t have to worry about toxicity, although too much will cause diarrhea.

Vitamin D

There’s been a lot of talk about the benefits of Vitamin D these days. It combats inflammation, which is known to cause disease and accelerate aging. Vitamin D also works closely in conjunction with calcium balance in the body, which is crucial as we age—especially for women who are prone to osteoporosis. Vitamin D supplements can help, but the best way to get your dose of D is through safe and sensible sun exposure.

Vitamin E

It’s no secret that dry, cracked skin looks old and dull. Vitamin E can help keep your skin looking soft, supple and youthful. It also acts as an antioxidant. Another added bonus: it also helps lower the risk of heart attack, stroke and may even help lower cholesterol.
