Ready to burn an extra 250 Calories a day?
If you do, and even if you don't change anything else, you will be losing
a 1/2 Lb. a week!
How much should you exercise to achieve this goal? It depends on your
fitness level.
Just two examples. It takes an advanced swimmer to swim about
1,300 yards and advanced walker to walk 2,5 miles.
Are you an advanced athlete? If not, youwill need to spend more time exercising
or invest time in improvement ofyour fitness level.
Another important factor is burning specifically fat, not carbohydrates
(your muscle glycogen). To insure fat burning, you have to keep exercising
longer than 20 minutes because only after 20 minutes the lipolysis willstart.
Once the 20 minutes are spent, every extra minute of exercisingwill burn
fat.
Which exercise is better for burning more fat at rest (or for higher basal
metabolism)? There are some indications that endurance training would be.
What else does help to burn more fat? The stronger youare, the more actively
you burn fat at rest so do your strength exercises.(Am J Clin Nutrit 61(3):543-8,
1995)
What does aerobic exercises doto the body fat? Be careful! A high aerobic
fitness level is associated witha lower rate of fat burning at rest. (J
Appl Physiol 77(5):2374-9, 1994)
What happens if exercise doesn't cause leanness? Exercise is
of benefit to the overweight even if it does not make them lean. (Ann Intern
